We’ve learned something important over the years: camping with kids is not about being ultra-outdoorsy. It’s about being ultra-prepared. The right gear doesn’t make you fancy – it makes you sane.

Here’s what genuinely makes family camping easier for us.
1. Packing Cubes
Before packing cubes, camping mornings sounded like:
“Mooooom, I can’t find my socks!”
“They’re in your camping box.”
“Where is my camping box?”
Now? Each child gets their own packing cube. One for clothes. One for swimwear. One for warm layers. Done.
Look for durable packing cubes with mesh tops or shelves so you can see what’s inside without unpacking the entire tent.
It sounds small. It is not small.
2. A Quick-Setup Tent (Because Marriage Matters)
There is nothing bonding about fighting with tent poles while children circle you asking for snacks.
Choose a quick-setup family tent. Under 10 minutes. Clear instructions. Good ventilation.
Your future self will thank you.
3. Rechargeable Lanterns
Camping lighting is underrated. Soft rechargeable lanterns create cozy evening vibes and prevent children from “accidentally” wandering into the dark.
Bonus: no frantic midnight battery hunts.
4. A Proper Cooler (Not the Cheap One)
Invest in a good-quality insulated cooler. One that actually keeps food cold all day.
Use stackable containers inside it. Drinks separate. Snacks separate. Meal items separate.
No one wants yoghurt-flavoured cheese. Except my two year old.
5. Foldable Camping Chairs for Everyone
Even kids. Especially kids.
When everyone has a chair, no one is fighting over yours while you’re trying to drink your coffee before it cools down.
Camping doesn’t have to be chaotic. When the basics are handled, you actually get to sit back and think:
“Oh. This is nice.”
And that’s what an adventure life really is. Not perfect. Just prepared enough to enjoy it.
